From Courtney's Closet...

Little Ms. Courtney...

WOW...how exciting Courtney is turning ONE!! Oh gosh, it just brings back a flood of memories when my son turned one. I remember at his party, he sat there with all this commotion going on around him kinda lookin' around like "what in the world are these people acting like this for??" and at the same time lookin' like "whatever the reason, it don't matter cause I seem to be the center of all the attention!!". Funny!
Anyways, Libby had her fab challenge going down in celebration of Courtney's birthday and I wanted to make a little something for my son's teacher, so this is what I did!!

It's a cupcake-gift-card-holder!

First I took some chipboard and marked a 6 inch circle. Found the center of the 6 inch circle and marked a 2 inch circle there. Then I cut from the outside (6 inch circle) into the inside (2 inch circle. I stuck a 3 inch styrofoam ball in the middle and brought the cut edges up and around the styrofoam ball. Held that in place with an elastic and hot glued the edges around the ball. Next, I took the ball out and cut in half, put some dimensionals in the middle to create a channel for the gift card to slide in. I took two strips of 2 x 12 pattern paper, glued them together, then scored every 1/4 inch and accordion folded and glued the other end together which made an accordion folded circle. I hot glued that around my chipboard base to make the cupcake base. Next, I hot glued the styrofoam ball back in the base with the opening at the top.

I took a 24 inch piece of green ribbon and gathered it with a piece of thread and hot glued that on the top edge of the cupcake base. Then, I cut oodles and oodles of scalloped punches, purple with 2 inch punch, blue with 1 1/2 inch punch and pink with 1 1/4 inch punch. Cut all of those in half, inked the scalloped edges, cut between the scallops, ruffled them and finally hot glued those around the styrofoam ball. Touched the tips with a touch of glue and sprinkle of glitter. I took a 1 inch styrofoam ball and painted it red then covered it in glue and glitter.

Then I took a binder clip from Staples, took the two parts that you squeeze to open it off and hot glued the glittery cherry to the top. I gathered some white ribbon on a thread and hot glued that as the whipped cream around the black binder clip. The gift card slips into the binder clip and then is tucked down in the cupcake!!
I am sending out some sweet birthday love to sweet little Courtney (and her Mama) and hope you have a wonderful birthday celebration!

Karen this is so way beyond amazing!!! I just LOVE it! If I were picking a "favorite" this week I'm pretty sure you'd have to be it!! And cute memories about your son - it was pretty much the same for Courtney at her party on Sunday. :-) Thanks so much for playing, your name is in the hat!
